About ICE: Keep Calm & Stay Vigilant
Dear Friends,
We know that by now you have probably heard the news that the Trump administration has announced plans for a wave of raids and deportations in the coming week targeted at immigrants who have pending deportation orders or have missed check-ins.
We can't know for sure whether or not they actually have the intention or the capacity to execute all of their threats, but we definitely know that at least one of their goals in broadcasting them is to incite fear and panic. They want immigrant communities terrified, and we don't want to help them by amplifying the terror with speculation or misinformation.
The truth is that deportations and raids have been happening for years -- and will keep happening until we abolish ICE and dismantle our current immigration system -- so we always need to be aware of how to react if we come into contact with ICE.
We have a Know-Your-Rights guide available on our website with more information about what to do if ICE is at your door, and we organize Community Walks, where folks go out and distribute those materials in their neighborhoods. Please reach out to us at jwj@massjwj.net if you want to hold a Community Walk where you live or work.
If you are an immigrant and want to check the status of your case, you can do so by calling 1-800-898-7180 and entering your 9-digit alien identification number. If you have a pending deportation order, you should speak to a lawyer immediately.
Regardless of what happens in the next week, we are going to need to keep fighting for the safety and dignity of immigrant communities. You can join us by signing up for our statewide network of folks like you who are ready to take action.
So please remember, even when things get scary -- keep calm, stay safe, and never stop fighting until we're all free.
In Solidarity,
All of Us at Massachusetts Jobs with Justice
