Exciting Announcement & Meet Our Team!

We write to you with some exciting news about our organization. The Executive Committee is happy to announce that Alicia Fleming, our Western Massachusetts Coordinator for MA JwJ, will be our next Co-Executive Director. Together, with Lily Huang, they will be a woman of color-led Executive team with a majority BIPOC staff. During this righteous global uprising for the Movement for Black Lives, a world-wide pandemic, and the public health and economic disaster that we are facing, Alicia, Lily, and the JwJ team have heard and heeded the call for the leadership, vision, and organizing needed in this moment.

Massachusetts Jobs with Justice is in a great place, with an amazing staff who have rapidly responded to the crisis(es) working class people and their families face. Our team members are reflective of what MA JwJ always promotes. They support each other’s leadership and have been very flexible in accommodating each staff person’s family needs in these uncertain times. Our team is dedicated, deliberate, candid, and nimble, moving quickly to action yet being thoughtful in the process.

When the global pandemic first hit Massachusetts, MA JwJ had to quickly shift to virtual operations and have accomplished the following over the last 7 months:

  • Hosted a Know Your Rights session with Mass COSH and the Attorney General’s Fair Labor Division

  • Created and translated a listing of Worker Relief funds, which has been utilized by more than 30K workers and resources on Paid Sick Time, Know your rights, and unemploymentwhich have been translated into nine different languages!

  • Launched Mass UndocuFund with MataHari Womens' Worker Center and One Fair Wage which raised $1million dollars to provide financial assistance for undocumented workers and their families while partnering with organizations across the state from the Berkshires to Boston

  • Created a Resource Guide to support more than 10K applicants of Mass UndocuFund, including those from our partner organizations

As part of this transition, we will need your financial help so there is an efficient and supportive process for our new Co-Executive Director team, staff, and Executive Committee, and that all of our coalition members and partners see that these changes are making us an even more impactful organization. Your support will also help us ensure we have all the tools and resources needed in these times as we transition into the next year of work at MA JwJ.

We are excited for this transition and look forward to having you continue to be part of building a Massachusetts Jobs with Justice and a better world for the future.

In solidarity,

Massachusetts Jobs with Justice Staff and Board
