Blog post: Will you take action on Black Friday?

At Massachusetts Jobs with Justice, we have always taken action and confronted corporate greed on Black Friday and everyday.

Do you remember being part of our delegations and standouts to your local Wal-mart? Were you part of our successful Somerville takes a stand campaign that demanded -if- Wal-mart were to come to our city, they would have to do it on our terms? Did you stand with David and Windy as they built working class power against the corporate giant? Did you join us in Thanking Wal-mart workers at midnight for working on Black Friday with Thank you cards and homemade pies?

From taking action against Wal-mart, raising the minimum wage, winning earned sick time, and paid family medical leave to fighting for safe and healthy working conditions, uplifting women who are working double time and bear the brunt of the burden of living in quarantine and working in risky conditions, and building Mass UndocuFund, a social safety net for undocumented workers hard hit by Covid-19 and the economic depression, your support helps Massachusetts Jobs with Justice make a difference in the lives of working people across Massachusetts every day.

Will you join us this Black Friday by donating: https://secure.actblue.com/donate/majwjblackfriday? We know what it takes to win, but we need you. This year we’re setting our eyes on building grassroots worker organization and multi-racial working class power. To take on the “Triple Pandemic” of Covid-19, white supremacy, and an economic depression, we need each other more than ever. Your donation today will help us build BIPOC Workers United across Massachusetts to build worker power, agency, and resilience at work, home, and in the community. Together we will wage a campaign to take on corporate greed and bad bosses. Your donation of:

  • $40 will help us reach out and invite workers to join us

  • $60 will help us develop and train workers in political education and organizing skills

  • $80 will help us pivot to digital organizing and outreach in this moment

  • $100 will seed the movement for our Fair Work Week campaign in Massachusetts to win a dependable schedule and pay for restaurant, retail, and hospitality workers

For your donation of $40 or more, you will receive a digital copy of our “Stir the Pot” cookbook compiled by Massachusetts Jobs with Justice with recipes from activists. If you become a monthly sustainer today by choosing the option to donate $5 or more monthly, you will receive a paper copy of our cookbook delivered to your home!

We understand it’s been a difficult year for many of us and if you are not in a financial position to donate this year, we hope you can share this email with your friends and family.

As always, you’re invited to learn, build, and organize with us!
Take action with our Autumn/winter Movement Moment Training series!

Part IV Know Your Enemy: Strategic Corporate Research 101: A big part of any organizing campaign involves researching your target, especially when you're going after a large corporation. Strategic corporate research involves identifying leverage points— such as political donations, unethical practices, or worker and community exploitation— that can be utilized during a campaign to agitate and mobilize your base. In this training, you will learn to brainstorm which aspects of your target to research and how to navigate various databases, like Open Secrets and OCPF. You’ll come away from this training with the basic research skills needed to know your enemy and support your campaign.
