GE Workers Need Your Solidarity NOW!

We stand with GE workers for Safe Jobs & a Safer World!

We stand with GE workers for Safe Jobs & a Safer World!

We are only weeks into the pandemic, and already we’ve seen too many tragic examples of workers physically endangered and economically destroyed by large corporations that want to keep their profits high while working people suffer.

But we have also seen some really inspiring examples of workers coming together to stand up and fight back. Health care workers, Amazon workers, Instacart workers, and countless others across the country are bravely using their voice on the job to stand up for themselves and their communities.

Our siblings at the General Electric plant in Lynn are no exception.

You may have heard the story in the news this week – the IUE-CWA Local 201 workers at the General Electric plant in Lynn, MA have launched a protest to demand that the company fix appalling safety conditions at the facility and hire unemployed workers to manufacture the life-saving ventilators the whole country so desperately needs.

GE pulled in $95 billion in revenue last year, and most of the company’s executives are safely at home right now, but the folks who are putting themselves at risk at the factory in Lynn aren’t even getting enough basic supplies like soap and paper towels to keep themselves safe on the job.

Workers say that if GE cleaned up the plant and hire unemployed workers, they could start manufacturing ventilators. Here are their 5 simple demands:

  1. Supplies - GE should consistently provide soap, paper towels, gloves, sanitizing spray, and spray bottles.

  2. Sanitization - GE should consistently clean all work surfaces between shifts.

  3. Six feet - GE should adopt new approaches in the plant that facilitate as much social distancing for workers as possible.

  4. Sick time - GE should temporarily increase earned sick time banks by 14 days for workers with potential COVID-19 symptoms or direct exposures, even if testing availability is limited or workers are awaiting results.

  5. Serve the public - GE should improve sanitization at the facility and begin hiring currently unemployed workers to manufacture essential ventilators for medical purposes, along with continuing their current work.

GE workers in Lynn are standing up for their right to safety and the safety of our communities – will you stand with them?
