In Support of Haitian Immigrants

TW: VIOLENCE, ANTI-BLACKNESS

In recent days the world has witnessed the atrocities occurring against Black people at the United States’ southern border as - once again - the government engages in blatant state violence.  These images of United States Customs and Border Patrol officers abusing individuals and families in crisis demonstrates a complete disregard for the right to seek asylum and there should be no doubt in anyone’s mind that this horrific abuse is rooted in the brutal, terrorizing anti-blackness that is woven into every fiber of this nation.  Our movement does not talk about this enough - it will not be enough until it has ended. Immigration has always been a Black issue and too often Black voices are left out of the conversation.  Complicity has as much to do with this violence as policy and elected officials because it is our complicity that helps to make it possible.

Massachusetts Jobs with Justice stands with all immigrants and we demand that the Biden administration put an end to these heinous violations of human rights. Haitians deserve the right to seek asylum and refugee status in safety.

The Biden administration must:

  1. Commit to defunding and divesting from Immigration and Customs Enforcement, along with the Department of Homeland Security.

  2. Halt all deportations and end the use of Title 42 at all points of entry. (title 42 link?)

  3. Enact Humanitarian Parole for all Haitians seeking entry into the country.

We hope that our community members, coalition members, partners, and allies will be reminded once again that liberation for Black people will not be achieved unless our actions are more than performative in nature and the opposition to it becomes an ideology that lives more permanently in our minds.

In solidarity,

Massachusetts Jobs with Justice
