Looking back on the past year, it is difficult to fully comprehend the scale of loss we have collectively endured: lost jobs, savings, friends, loved ones, learning, plans, and certainty. Massachusetts’ first positive case of COVID-19 was confirmed on February 1, 2020, and just over a year later, more than 700,000 people have contracted the virus and nearly 18,000 have died across the Commonwealth. The cascading economic shocks caused by the pandemic have been similarly catastrophic and swift.
