From the border to Boston and all over the country, families are being torn apart by a government that criminalizes, detains, and deports them. Recently, the Trump administration escalated its racist attacks on immigrants by separating children from their parents at the border and putting them in cages. After public outcry, their “solution” was to keep families together... in detention centers. Jailing families is not a solution.

Here in Massachusetts, we’re calling on elected officials to protect community members by passing basic protections included in our state budget: YES to due process for detained immigrants, NO to local police acting as ICE agents and asking about immigration status.
Join us on for a march & rally in Springfield or Boston on June 30th at 11 a.m. as part of a National Day of Action to stand against family separation.

Right now senators and representatives at the Massachusetts State House are considering changing or eliminating the time-and-a-half pay that retail and grocery workers receive on Sundays and holidays. Around $300,000 workers would be affected. This is legislative wage theft -- taking money from the pockets of working people just to cater to corporate interests. The Senate President and Speaker of the House need to hear from you! Please make two quick phone calls to help protect time-and-a-half pay.

I’ve been thinking about these things because I’m struck by how the news of Mt. Ida seems to once again isolate UMass Boston, a university struggling with unsustainable debt, as an institution with no future. We are a campus that serves the public. We are a campus that gives opportunity to the poor, the working class. We are a campus that understands intimately the links between race and class, the persistence and legacies of racism, and we understand this not because it’s something that is taught in our classes – though it is, and it should be – but because our community, our majority-minority students, bring these experiences into the classroom. We are a campus that is rich in opportunity and experience but poor in resources.

From layoffs to budget cuts to tuition and fee hikes, workers, students, and staff at UMass Boston are under attack! To add insult to injury, while UMass is buried in debt and its infrastructure is literally crumbling, UMass Amherst just announced that they will be purchasing Mt. Ida College's Newton campus as a satellite location for students completing internships in Boston.

GREENFIELD, Mass. – The registered nurses of Baystate Franklin Medical Center, represented by the Massachusetts Nurses Association, are preparing to take a series of actions this week in support of safe patient care as they hold a 24-hour strike and Baystate threatens to lock nurses out of their hospital for an additional two days.

After 25 years of beating back the corporate attack here in Massachusetts, Jobs with Justice is still fighting for workers’ rights, immigrant rights, public education, and the justice our communities deserve.
